COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Worker’s Compensation Board of BC now requires all workers to be trained before fighting a forest fire and also requires workers that fight forest fires to be retrained annually (WCB Reg 26.19). In addition, the BC Forest Service requires that anyone conducting an industrial operation in a forest to be trained for fighting forest fires. This course was developed by the BC Forest Service to meet the requirements of their regulations and is also accepted by the WCB as meeting the requirements of their regulations.

The emphasis in this course is on fireline safety, the fundamentals of fire fighting, fire behaviour and the use of portable pumps to deliver water to fires. The latter portion of this course (one and two-day versions) includes a field session working with water pumps, hoses and associated equipment. Participants should therefore be prepared for the weather with adequate field clothing and footwear and must have a hard hat. A short examination is given at the end of this course and successful participants will receive formal proof of completion.

This course is offered in three formats to satisfy the training needs of a wide variety of audiences.

TWO-DAY version: for those with little or no Forestry or Fire Fighting experience or education.

ONE-DAY version: for industry personnel with practical experience in the woods or fire fighting or those with formal education in forestry.

HALF-DAY Refresher: for anyone who has received forest fire fighter training previously and needing to fulfill the "annual retraining" requirement only.
